Had surgery on 010709,my left leg was lifeless after the surgery, I was so worried I started to have negative thoughts, kept asking myself why am I so 'suay' to be in the 5%. I was unable to stand with my right leg as my lifeless left leg was so heavy I just can't balance myself, it's like tons of dead meat. When I sleep and wanted to change postion I need to sit up and use my hand to lift it up.
Was transferred to rehab ward for therapy treament, after some muscles exercises I was able to stand with my right leg, started to learn to walk with a walking frame (not walk but actually dragged). My leg muscles improved but I still can't lift up my ankle to walk and I can't wriggle my toes. With the help of the 'AFO' (do not know the full name) I learned to walk with a 4 legged stick, now I am better I am walking with a single stick but still need to wear the 'AFO' to lift up my foot. I still tend to tripped and my leg shivers when I walked long distance.
Was discharged on 220709, I was so helpless during my stay in the hospital, I needed assistance to go to the toilet and shower, I was confined to the bed all day, but think about it I think I should say I am lucky because many of those who had the same surgery as me ended up in a worst shape than me. Now that I had almost lost my left leg I had learnt not to take things for granted and also to appreciate the freedom I have.
I never know that nursing job is so tedious until I get to see it myself especially those working in the rehab ward, as patients in this ward were unable to use their hands, legs or both, they needed assistance when going to the toilet or shower, some of these patients needed more than 1 nurse to transfer them. The team of nurses in ward 52E are very friendly and professional, they also displayed very good team spirit. Nurses in ward 64 are also friendly and encouraging despite their hectic job as this is a rehab ward. There is also a team of student nurses who helped with the tedious job.
Low Ai Ling is the therapist who helped me in my recovery, she is patient, friendly and I felt very comfortable throughout the therapy session with her.
I was given 65 days hospitalisation leave, as my company only accept 60 days, I might be taking leave after the 60 days. Need to continue practise walking to North Point and even longer distance more often. Hoped that I am able to go back to work without walking stick.
Need to go back for therapy session on 020809, to see the nureosurgery doctor on 200809 and rehab doctor on 020909.
